Dr. Ran is an expert in dynamic transportation network models, traffic simulation and control, traffic information system, and Connected Automated Vehicle Highway (CAVH). He has led the development and deployment of various traffic information systems and technologies in the US and China. He has trained younger generations of professors and experts in traffic engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the US, China, Korea, and other countries.

Dr. Cheng received his Ph.D. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011. His research areas include automated highway and driving systems, mobile traffic sensor modeling, large-scale transportation data management and analytics, and traffic operations and control.

Kunsong Shi joined the CAVH group in Fall 2017. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Wisconsin Madison. His main research directions are connected and automated vehicle highway, data-driven lane change prediction, data-driven vehicle trajectory prediction, deep reinforcement learning vehicle control, and deep learning.

Haotian Shi joined the CAVH group in 2019 Spring. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received triple M.S. degrees in Power and Machinery Engineering (Tianjin University, 2020), Civil and Environmental Engineering (UW-Madison, 2020), and Computer Science (UW-Madison, 2022). His main research directions are prediction & control of connected automated vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, crash data analysis, and deep reinforcement learning.

Stephen Kocmoud joined the CAVH group in the Fall of 2021. He is pursuing a Masters degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering: Transportation from UW-Madison. He currently works for the Federal Aviation Administration and is interested in how Airlines can partner with carbon neutral modes of transportation, such as autonomous electric vehicles, for better sustainability, connectivity, and safety.
